ELLISVILLE - Jones County Junior College’s musical groups, JC Jazz and JC Voices will be presenting an evening of Java & Jazz on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the Bobby Shows Exhibit Hall of the Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center in Ellisville.

The year’s concert will showcase works by Doug Beach, Glenn Martin and Hoagy Carmichael. In addition, Director of the JC Jazz and percussionist, Jeff Brown will also premiere an original tune entitled, “Headed for the Weekend.”

The free evening of music will also feature the JC Jazz Combo. This group is an improvisation group in which members learn to improvise from a lead sheet. According to Brown, “not only is every rehearsal unique - so is every performance!”

Conductor Dr. Susan Smith and accompanist Dr. Victoria Johnson will lead JC Voices as they take the audience on a musical journey of tunes from the 20’s to the present.  The audience will enjoy such standards as Java Jive and A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square made famous by Manhattan Transfer as well as more contemporary tunes such as Love Psalm made popular by New York Voices and Fields of Gold by Sting.

It promises to be a lively evening with coffee and light refreshments along with jazz of all kinds.   For more information call the JCJC Fine Arts Department at 601-477-4094.
