ELLISVILLE – Family and friends of retired Ellisville and Jones County Junior College police officer, “Sonny” Patterson gathered with state, Jones County and Ellisville city officials to dedicate the establishment of the Wyonie "Sonny" Patterson Memorial Highway.
“I’m honored everyone turned out for this occasion,” said Patterson’s daughter Susan Patterson Kelly. “My dad loved his community and everybody. This is a very special day and a great privilege to have the highway named in his honor, especially since he died almost one year ago to date. I appreciate everyone’s efforts that made this possible.”

Representative Bobby Shows sponsored a bill to designate a portion of the highway to be named in the lawenforcement officer’s honor. The Mississippi Department of Transportation put up the signage honoring Patterson at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 29 (Holly Street), in the center of town and at the intersection of Church Street and Highway 29.

“This is one way to honor a man who gave his life to protect the citizens of Ellisville and JCJC for 42 years,” Shows.

The 77 year-old worked for the Ellisville Police department for 30 years and at JCJC for 12 years before retiring from JCJC in 2010.
