ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College held its annual Football Media Day here on a sweltering Saturday morning at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.

Head coach Eddie Pierce, his assistant coaches and the Bobcat players were on hand to have their pictures made and give interviews to the local media.

The JCJC-TV crew, consisting of announcers Mark Easley and Lance Pittman, along with producer/director/cameraman Jared Meyers, was on hand to tape interviews and shoot video for the “Bobcat Media Day Special,” which will be posted soon on www.jcjc.tv.

After about 2 ½ hours of pictures and interviews, everyone was treated to a barbecue chicken lunch with baked beans and potato salad.

Saturday’s Media Day activities marked the end of a two-week stretch of tough, preseason practices for the Bobcats. Pierce and his staff started with around 80 players and have cut that down to around 65. All MACJC schools must be at 55 players (plus 10 practice players) by the time they open the season.

The Bobcats will now begin to focus their attention on the Sept. 2 season opener at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. and airtime will be at 5:30 p.m. on WGDQ-FM, 93.1, and www.jcjc.tv (audio only).

JCJC will also hold its annual “Meet the Bobcats” night at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31 in Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. The team, coaches and cheerleaders will be introduced and that will be followed an exhibition by the “Maroon Typhoon” Marching Band.
