ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College will hold summer commencement exercises Friday, August 2, at 10 a.m. in the A.B. Howard Gymnasium. Live video streaming will be available for guests unable to attend the commencement ceremony on JCJC.TV, which can be found on the college website at www.jcjc.edu.

About 170 students are eligible for graduation with 120 students expected to participate in the commencement exercises. These students will leave Jones with either an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Applied Science degree, or Vocational Certificate.

The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony will be Mississippi State University’s 19th president, Dr. Mark Keenum. Since 2009, Dr. Keenum has guided the university to “new heights” with record enrollment growth. He has also overseen the construction of new residence halls and other new buildings on campus, and he is seeing alumni-giving reach record levels.

The Corinth, MS native and Northeast Mississippi Community College graduate was recently elected to serve as the Chair of State Delegation and on the Executive Council of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ commission, and on the American Public Land-Grant Universities Board of Directors. Graduating from Mississippi State with a degree in agricultural economics, Dr. Keenum began his career at MSU as a faculty member with the Extension Service and the Department of Agricultural Economics. He went on to serve as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Thad Cochran in Washington, D.C. and was Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture prior to returning home to Mississippi State.
