Author and inspirational speaker, Dr. Samuel Jones to be JCJC’s Spring Graduation speaker

ELLISVILLE - Jones County Junior College’s Spring Commencement Ceremony will be held Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m. in the A.B. Howard/Bobcat Gymnasium. Overflow seating will be available in the Fine Arts Auditorium with a simulcast of the ceremony. Commencement will also be streamed on the web page, www.jcjc.edu or www.jcjc.tv.
 
About 560 students are eligible to graduate with either an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Applied Science degree, or Vocational Certificate. Additionally, nearly 200 students have already met graduation requirements after the fall semester and may participate in spring commencement ceremonies.
 
The keynote speaker will be JCJC’s Dean of Student Affairs, author and inspirational speaker, Dr. Samuel Jones. His address will focus on student’s making a difference beyond the reach of what they think is possible. Jones said he is excited about being chosen as JCJC’s commencement keynote speaker.
“It is an honor for me to be speaking to the college community, which includes graduates, faculty and staff, board members, and family and friends of the graduates.  I hope my message will be inspiring to all in attendance,” said Dr. Jones.
The native of Rosedale, MS is also the facilitator/trainer for the Mississippi Economic Council’s Leadership Mississippi program.  Jones authored the book, “The Man I Never Knew: How Leadership Can be Developed by Faith, Family, and Friends,” in 2011. Some of his past positions at JCJC include serving as the assistant men’s basketball coach, a student recruiter, and the assistant dean of student affairs.  

Dr. Jones received a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising (1997) and a Master’s degree in Public Relations (2002) from the University of Southern Mississippi.  He also received a Ph.D. from Mississippi State University in Educational Leadership (2006).  After his basketball career at USM, he continued his professional basketball career in Finland.  He’s been able to combine his athletic background along with his educational and professional background to make an impact on his community.
He is the owner of a consulting company called, Dr. Samuel Jones Consulting, LLC, which is geared towards professional development and leadership training through seminars.  He works with K-12 school districts, colleges and universities and business organizations in areas such customer service, crisis management, diversity training, character education and other important issues.  His personal and professional motto is “Changing Lives with Every Word.”  For more information, go to www.drsamueljones.com.
Dr. Jones is married to the former Sarah Clark of Richton, MS.  He is a licensed Minister of the Gospel and he serves as the Superintendent for the Sunday school at Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Richton, MS. He served as a Deacon for eleven years at Peace and Goodwill MBC prior to his call into the ministry.
