JC Voices perform in Laurel

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College’s vocal ensemble, JC Voices is inviting the public to its spring concert, “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing,” on Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m.  This is a free event at First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel.

JC Voices will be performing an evening of choral music conducted by Dr. Susan Smith.  The eclectic program of world music, celebrates the universal language of music with such pieces as Let All the World in Every Corner Sing from Five Mystical Songs, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, accompanied by faculty organist, Mrs. Kay Guiles; selections from the Johannes Brahms Liebeslieder, Opus 52 (featuring JC Voices accompanist, Dr. Victoria Johnson and guest faculty pianist, Dr. Theresa Sanchez), Words of the Sun by Zhou Long, Mundi renovatio by György Orbán, The Gartan Mother's Lullaby, by Neil Ginsberg, featuring Mrs. Meri Newell (flute), faculty woodwind instructor; Ngana, from Songs of Passage by Stephen Leek, and many others before concluding with Larry Farrow's arrangement of the Harry Belafonte classic Turn the World Around, featuring a Jamaican island tempo and rhythm, as well as percussion, featuring faculty percussionist, Mr. Jeff Brown and gospel styled piano (Dr. Victoria Johnson).
