JCJC offers non-credit cake decorating course

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College’s Culinary Arts department will be offering the non-credit course, “Essentials of Cake Decorating” beginning Monday, September 17, through October 15. The class will meet in the JCJC Life Science building from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The course costs $125 and it is recommended students purchase a decorator’s set and turntable. 
 
A preview of the class will be Monday, September 10, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. to answer any questions and give students an idea of what will be expected during this course. 
 
The skills learned in the Essentials of Cake Decorating course include leveling, filling, and crumb coating cakes, along with basic icing skills like piping, border skills, rosebuds, and fruit blossoms. Projects in this course include cupcakes, petit fours, and cakes.
