JCJC announces summer graduation

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College will hold summer commencement exercises Friday, August 3, at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Live video streaming will also be available for guests unable to attend the commencement ceremonies. JCJC.TV is located on the college website, www.jcjc.edu.
About 170 students are eligible for graduation with either an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Applied Science degree, or Vocational Certificate. There are about 110 students who are expected to participate in commencement exercises.
The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony will be new head football coach at JCJC, Ray Perkins. The Petal resident played on three SEC championship teams under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant at the University of Alabama from 1964-66 and two national championship teams in 1964-65. As an All-American wide receiver in 1966, he was drafted in the seventh round by the Baltimore Colts in 1967, which he played for four years, helping the Colts to a 16-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V.
Perkins most recently served as assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns from 1999-2000 and as offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders in 1997 and the New England Patriots from 1993-96. His head coaching jobs include Arkansas State University in 1992, Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987-90, the University of Alabama from 1983-86 and the New York Giants from 1979-82. He began his coaching career as assistant coach for the New England Patriots in 1974-77 and as offensive coordinator in 1978 for the San Diego Chargers.
