Due to high demand, United Blood Services is asking community members to donate to Jones County Junior College’s annual Summer Blood Drive Tuesday, June 19 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the campus Game Room.

Donations can be made in the name of Katlyn Graham, who is recovering from a recent ATV accident. Graham has friends and family at Jones who wanted to give the  community the opportunity to do something in her honor.

Blood donations are needed locally for several reasons. Several children and adults have needed transfusions due to accidents and other emergency situations. In addition, Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans recently contacted UBS to help meet their daily demand.

“Ochsner has an in-house blood bank, but it’s not meeting their needs because they do so many transplants there,” said Beverly Clark, Senior Donor Representative. “UBS delivers blood to Ochsner every day.”

All donors who participate in the JCJC Summer Blood Drive will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Appointments can be made online at www.bloodhero.com (sponsor code: jcjc) or by calling Pat Skaggs at JCJC at 601-477-4124. For questions regarding health, medications or travel deferrals, call UBS at 1-800-880-0743.
