ELLISVILLE – A spontaneous decision to compete in Jones County Junior College’s business competition proved beneficial for Jason Burger. The Oak Grove senior outscored about 40 students taking an objective business test covering general business, computer concepts, and current events to earn a JCJC scholarship.

“I read about it in the newspaper,” said Burger. “I didn’t know what to expect but my dad is an accountant so I learned a lot from him.”

The business major earned a full tuition scholarship to Jones for one semester. “It makes sense to me to get my basic courses at a community college and I like the ‘community’ feel at Jones,” said Burger.

Hayden Hamrick earned the second place prize: one-half tuition scholarship for one semester. The Enterprise senior plans to major in digital photography and may open his own business.  Public Affairs Manager with Leaf River Cellulose, Jana Bryant encouraged all of the students competing to further their education and consider a career with Leaf River Cellulose.

Sponsors of the business competition include Leaf River Cellulose, Sunbelt Federal Credit Union, Hol-Mac Corporation and Coca-Cola. For more information, call Dusty Holifield at 601.477.5435 or email dusty.holifield@jcjc.edu.
