ELLISVILLE – It’s football time in south Mississippi.

Almost 80 Jones County Junior College players officially reported for fall camp on Friday afternoon. The Bobcats, rated No. 19 in the NJCAA Preseason poll, went through conditioning tests and held a team meeting that evening.

The first official practice took place at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Bobcat Practice Field.  Head coach Eddie Pierce and his staff put the Bobcats through about a 2-½ hour workout.

The Bobcats will practice for the next two weeks and then will take a break for “Media Day” on Aug. 21. “Meet The Bobcats” is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.

The roster must be trimmed to 55 players by the time JCJC opens the season at 6 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead. The game will be broadcast (audio only) on www.jcjc.tv and on WGDQ-FM, 93.1, with Lance Pittman on the play-by-play and Mark Easley providing commentary.

Airtime will be 5:30 p.m.
