ELLISVILLE – About one-hundred of Mississippi’s music teachers and enthusiasts met at Jones County Junior College recently to hear professional musicians, learn new teaching techniques, and assist with student competitions at the Mississippi Music Teachers Association's annual conference, hosted at Jones.  Music professionals compared notes on various teaching methods and performance techniques from some of the guest clinicians like Helen Marlais. She advised teachers on ways to get students to have the perfect piano hand technique.

“There are a couple of things I do to help my students achieve the perfect piano-hand positions. We do finger push-ups on the wall…and for the younger students we smash the smiley faces drawn on their finger tips,” said Marlais.

Jones students also had the chance to help plan the event and meet nationally renowned musicians and teachers.
