JCJC announces 4th annual High School Math Quiz Bowl

ELLISVILLE - Jones County Junior College’s math department will be hosting the fourth annual Math Quiz Bowl on Thursday, November 17 at the JCJC Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center in the Howard Technology Park. This contest is a venue to spotlight the academic talent of the area’s best and brightest high school math students.
Competing teams from each area high school will consist of four students. Questions will range in difficulty from factions and statistics to algebra and calculus. The preliminary rounds will be held simultaneously in separate rooms and the play-off rounds will be held in the ATC auditorium.
Participating senior students on the first and second place teams will be eligible to receive scholarship awards. These scholarships may be applied to expenses at JCJC and will be given in addition to any scholarships students may have already received or will receive at Jones. Additional monetary awards from contributing sponsors from the business community will also be available.
High Schools expected to participate in this year’s math bowl include: Collins High School, Enterprise High School, Greene County High School, Laurel Christian High School, Laurel High School, Lawrence County High School, Mize Attendance Center, Mt. Olive Attendance Center, Northeast Jones High School, Perry Central High School, Presbyterian Christian High School, Quitman High School, Raleigh High School, Richton High School, Seminary Attendance Center, South Jones High School, Stringer Attendance Center, Taylorsville High School, Wayne Academy, Wayne County High School, and West Jones High School.
JCJC Math Quiz Bowl previous sponsors have included Magnolia Bank of Jasper and Smith Counties, Community Bank of Jones and Covington Counties, First State Bank of Wayne and Clarke Counties, Jefferson Medical, Sanderson Farms, and Foil Wyatt Architects.
