JCJC’s Madrigals and More Concert at Laurel’s First-Trinity Presbyterian Church

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Fine Arts department will be performing a special concert, co-sponsored by the First-Trinity Presbyterian Church of Laurel, on Tuesday, October 18, at 7 p.m. This concert will feature music primarily from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and will highlight the work of many chamber groups and soloists from Jones County Junior College. The concert is open to the public and free of charge.
The ‘Madrigals and More’ concert will feature the JC Voices-Madrigal Singers under the direction of Dr. Susan Smith. In addition to student performers, the concert will also feature faculty performers Dr. Michael Boyd (lute), Mrs. Kay Guiles (organ), Dr. Victoria Johnson (harpsichord), and Mrs. Meri Newell (recorder). 
Student performers and groups include JC Voices, under the direction of Dr. Susan Smith, the JC Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Patrick Richards, the Renaissance Duo featuring lute and soprano, the Ladye Smythe Recorder Trio, the JCJC guitar ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Michael Boyd, and the JCJC Mallet Keyboard Trio, under the direction of Mr. Jeff Brown. The audience will enjoy works from well-known composers such as Bach, Dufay, Pachelbel, Wilbye, and Gabrieli, as well as works from lesser-known composers Certon, Morton, and Robert de Visée. For more information call the JCJC Fine Arts department at 601-477-4094.
