ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men’s soccer team got an ‘own’ goal from Northwest Mississippi Community College in the 70th minute and beat the Rangers 2-1 here Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Soccer Field.

In the women’s game, Danica Roberts scored four goals to lift JCJC to a 6-1 decision over the Lady Rangers.

The Bobcats resume MACJC South Division play on Oct. 5 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.

Northwest travels to Southwest on Saturday.

Bobcats 2, Rangers 1

The game was scoreless until the 32nd minute when JCJC’s Dusty Pittman scored right in front of the Ranger goal.

It stayed that way until 62nd minute when Peyton Smith scored for the Rangers to tie it at 1-1.

That set the stage for the ‘own’ goal in the 70th minute. The Bobcats kicked the ball towards the goal and the Ranger keeper inadvertently knocked it in his own net.

Alan Davidson was in goal for JCJC.

The Bobcats had beaten the Rangers 6-5 on Aug. 30 in Senatobia.

JCJC improves to 5-3-2 overall, while Northwest drops to 4-4-1.

Lady Bobcats 6, Lady Rangers 1

It was only 1-0 in favor of Jones at halftime, but the Lady Bobcats got heated up in the second half.

Roberts scored the first goal in the opening half.

She then scored in the 49th minute off an assist by Macey Endris to make it 2-0. Morgan Pace found the net in the 55th minute off another Endris assist to give Jones a 3-0 lead.

Northwest’s Samantha Beard scored in the 59th minute to make it 3-1.

Pace then assisted Roberts in the 79th minute and Endris got her third assist, finding Roberts in the 84th minute to make it 5-1.

Leslie Masters scored off an assist by Haley Crosby just as time expired to end the scoring.

Michelle Brumfield, Kristen Pittman and Aundrea Borchardt all split time as keepers.

The Lady Bobcats are now 8-3, while Northwest drops to 2-6-1.

The Lady Bobcats defeated Northwest 3-0 back on Aug. 30.
