Bobcats, Wildcats battle to 1-1 tie in men's soccer

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College and Pearl River Community College battled to a 1-1 tie in overtime here Friday night in men’s soccer action at Bobcat Soccer Field.
In the women’s game, 15th-ranked Pearl River blanked the Lady Bobcats, 2-0.
In the men’s game, JCJC’s Dusty Pittman scored in the 34th minute to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the 81:33 mark when PRCC’s Antoine Armstrong scored off an assist by James Zanelli.
The teams then played two, 10-minute overtime periods and neither team was able to score. Both teams had their chances, especially in the second extra session, but could not convert.
Alan Davidson was in goal for the Bobcats.
JCJC is now 4-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in South Division play. Pearl River is 6-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the division.
In the women’s contest, Analejsia Lee scored off an assist by Ashlee Arnau at 52:41 to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead. JCJC’s Kimberly Murray fired a shot that hit the top of the crossbar and bounced over at the 62:40 mark.
PRCC’s Jordan Organ scored at 66:30 to put the Lady Wildcats up 2-0.
Murray just missed on a direct kick at the 74 minute mark and Danica Roberts came close on two efforts in the final 70 seconds, but could not connect.
The Lady Bobcats fall to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in division play. Pearl River improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the division.
The Bobcats will be back at home on Tuesday in a non-division matchup against Northwest Mississippi. The women’s game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.
Pearl River takes on Holmes in Ridgeland on Sept. 30 with the women’s game starting at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.
