JCJC soccer teams take pair from Meridian

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College recorded a pair of victories over Meridian Community College here Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Soccer Field.
In the men’s game, Giuliano Mancini broke a 2-2 tie at 87:58 to lift the Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over the Eagles. Earlier, the Lady Bobcats blanked MCC, 2-0.
The JCJC soccer teams return home for crucial South Division matches on Friday against Pearl River Community College. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
Meridian hosts Lon Morris College (Texas) on Saturday with the women’s game starting at noon, followed by the men’s game at 2 p.m.
Bobcats 3, Eagles 2
JCJC’s Mason Tabb scored at 22:59 to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. But Meridian’s Tony Chapel scored at 32:12 and 41:02 to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats tied it at 2-2 at 63:42 when Tyler Alexander scored.
That set the stage for Mancini’s game-winner in the final minutes. Alexander and Tabb had assists for the Bobcats.
Alan Davidson was in goal for JCJC.
The Bobcats are now 4-3-1 on the season, while Meridian falls to 1-6.
Lady Bobcats 2, Lady Eagles 0
The Lady Bobcats scored a goal in each half and went on to record their seventh shutout of the season.
Brandee Kovacevich scored at 38:02 off an assist by Danica Roberts to make it 1-0. Roberts scored an unassisted goal at 81:23 to close the scoring.
Michelle Brumfield was in goal for JCJC.
The Lady Bobcats improve to 7-2, while Meridian drops to 3-4.
