Several Bobcats suit up for senior colleges in weekend games

Several former Jones County Junior College Bobcats played over the weekend for senior college football teams.
The Belhaven University Blazers dropped a 32-24, triple overtime decision to Louisiana College in Pineville, La., Saturday night.
Former JCJC running back Justin Gaines of Bay Springs rushed 18 times for 44 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and had four receptions for 54 yards, including a 25-yard scoring strike for the Blazers. BU wide receiver Kylan Pollard of Laurel had two receptions for 4 yards, while wide receiver Rashad Wynes of Macon, Ga., had one catch for 41 yards and also had a 25-yard kickoff return.
Belhaven, 1-1, hosts Mississippi College at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Jackson’s Newell Field.
Former Bobcat Jo’Nal White of Ruston, La., started at nose tackle for Louisiana Tech in the Bulldogs’ 19-17 loss at Southern Miss on Saturday night. Louisiana Tech, 0-1, hosts Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Ex-Bobcat Tyrunn Walker started at defensive end for Tulsa in the Golden Hurricane’s 47-14 loss to top-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday night. Walker, a senior from New Iberia, La., had two solo tackles, two assists and one tackle for loss for Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane, 0-1, travel to Tulane University at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Former Bobcat Ryan Robinson played at defensive end for ninth-ranked Oklahoma State University in the Cowboys’ 61-34 win over Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday and had an assist. Ex-Bobcat Brandon Bender of Laurel is on the Ragin’ Cajun roster. Oklahoma State hosts Arizona at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10, while ULL visits Kent State at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Ex-Bobcat wide receiver Tristan Purifoy of Hanceville, Ala., had five receptions for 63 yards in North Alabama’s 31-10 victory over Central Oklahoma last Thursday. UNA, 1-0, hosts Glenville State at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Three former Bobcats will suit up when Alabama-Birmingham plays its season opener at Florida at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10. Senior safety Jamie Bender of Raleigh, along with junior linebackers D.A. Autry of Mize and Santonio Jones of Heidelberg are playing for the Blazers. The UAB/UF game will be shown on Fox SportSouth/ESPN3.
