ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcat soccer team held its first annual Alumni Game on Aug. 20 and head coach Dolores Deasley could not be more pleased with the event.

“We had a fantastic turnout for our Alumni game,” she said. “I think that says a lot for them to want to come back and support the program. I know a lot of them come to the games in the regular season and show their support.”

Fourteen former Lady Bobcats returned for the game, including Kacey McCann, Arlette Cochran, Jackie Thrash, Monica Shoemake, Brittany Wentworth, Katie Alderman, Aubrey Weems, Kristin Routh, Lauren Williams, Leah Shams, Bridget Dennis, Jackie Gosnell Williams, Lenzi Weems and Lauren Meadows.

Deasley wants to get more players returning from the time when Mark Easley served as coach from 1999-2005.

“Most of the players that returned played under me, but I’m hoping over the next year to find some of the older alumni to come back and play,” she said. “I want to get with Coach (Mark) Easley and see what we can do.”

Deasley added that remaining connected to former players could only help the Lady Bobcat program grow.

“It’s important to have that relationship with those players,” she said. “It’s just great to see their support for the program.”

The current Lady Bobcat team won the match, 5-1.
