Lady Bobcats blank Hinds 4-0 in soccer opener

 ELLISVILLE – The defending MACJC and Region 23 champion Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats successfully opened the 2011 soccer season here Saturday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.

Sophomore Danica Roberts scored three goals in the first half and sophomore Brandee Kovacevich added another as JCJC blanked Hinds Community College, 4-0. It was a rematch of last year’s state championship game, which the Lady Bobcats claimed by a 1-0 score.

Roberts scored just 4:44 into the match off an assist by Chelsea Wooten. She added her second goal at the 16:01 mark off an assist by Kovacevich. Roberts, who hails from Liversedge, England, complete the ‘hat trick’ with her third goal at 28:14 to make it 3-0. Kovacevich got the final goal on a header off an assist by Macey Endris at 43:54.

Sophomore Michelle Brumfield was in goal for the shutout.

JCJC, 1-0, goes on the road to battle Northwest Mississippi at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcat men face the Rangers at 4 p.m. Both Bobcat teams visit East Central on Friday.

Hinds, 1-1, hosts Holmes on Tuesday.
