JCJC announces summer graduation

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College will hold summer commencement exercises Friday, August 5, at 10 a.m. in the Bobcat/A.B. Howard Gym.
About 200 students are eligible for graduation with either an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Applied Science degree, or Vocational Certificate. There are about 140 students who are expected to participate in commencement exercises.
The keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony will be attorney and Chairman of the JCJC Board of Trustees, David Garner. He also serves as Commissioner for the Mississippi Board of Bar Commissioners which governs the Mississippi Bar. Present and former clients of Garner’s include Southern Pine Electric Power Association, General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Dow Chemical, Chevron Corporation, and Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company.
The Smith County native has been practicing law in Raleigh since 1993 when he earned his Juris Doctrate degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Garner graduated from the University of Mississippi, summa cum laude in 1989. He was a Taylor Medalist, served as President of Delta Psi Fraternity and was a member of the Hall of Fame while at the university. The 1985 Valedictorian of Mize Attendance Center graduated from Jones in 1987 garnering several honors and awards including, Academic Gold Key, Leadership Gold Key, Hall of Fame and Mr. JCJC. Garner served as president of the Student Government Association and the Baptist Student Union and was a member of the Jones Concert Choir.
