MOSELLE – It was a hot, muggy day for golf, but that did not bother participants in the first summer Jones County Junior College End Zone/Hardwood Club Tournament.

There were 14 teams competing in the event, which took place here Saturday at Pine Belt National Golf Club.

“We appreciate everyone who came out and played and our tournament sponsors,” said Bobcat head football coach Eddie Pierce. “This is done for the kids in our program and it means a lot to us for everyone to participate. We hope to have a bigger and better tournament next year.”

The team of Joseph Stringer, Craig Stephenson and Jason Stringer captured the 3-person scramble by shooting a 14-under par 58. Lance Law, Tyler Ratcliff and Paul Howell shot a 59 to claim second and the trio of Lacon Shephard, Ralph Howard and J.T. Jernigan finished third with a 60.

The tournament is a fund-raiser for the JCJC football, basketball and cheerleading squads. Drinks were available on the course during play and hamburgers, sausage dogs, Subway sandwiches and Pizza Hut pizza were served after the tournament.

Tournament sponsors included All Star Signs of Stringer, Twisted Pixel of Sumrall, Reflections, Chuck Brewer, Ray Guy, Sound Advice, Southern Beverage, Impact and Dossett Pontiac, Cadillac and GMC.

Next on the agenda for the Bobcat football team is Media Day in August with the 2011 season opener set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 1 vs. Mississippi Delta Community College at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field.
