ELLISVILLE – Summer is a slow time for blood collections however the UBS’ (United Blood Services) demands continue to rise. According to Beverly Clark, UBS Senior Representative, the current shortage of O+ and O- blood types was eased slightly with Jones County Junior Colleges recent blood drive.
JCJC secretary, Nelda Creel is a regular blood donor and she serves on the Blood Drive committee. Tuesday’s donation was special to her because it was her 39th unit. “Once I understood the importance of donating, I made it a habit,” said Creel. “I’ve worked here for 30 years and I have participated in almost every blood drive.”
As a special incentive to give, donors earned double donation points in the Hero Rewards Program and a free cholesterol screening. The college’s Fall Blood Drive is scheduled for Sept. 26-28. For more information about donating blood call the UBS at 601- 264-0743.
