Ex-Bobcat Toney records save as Austin Peay stuns Georgia Tech, 2-1

 ATLANTA, Ga. – Former Jones County Junior College standout Zach Toney has already made his mark in the NCAA Tournament.

Toney pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, struck out three, recorded a save and helped No. 4 seed Austin Peay State University stun top-seeded Georgia Tech, 2-1, here Friday evening at Russ Chandler Stadium. It was Toney’s second save of the season.

Toney, a D’Iberville native, and the Governors (34-22) will face Mississippi State University (35-23) at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the winner’s bracket of the Atlanta Regional. The third-seeded Bulldogs blanked second-seeded Southern Miss 3-0 on Friday. The Golden Eagles (39-18) meet Georgia Tech (40-20) at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.

The winner of the Atlanta Regional advances to meet the winner of the Gainesville Regional next week in a Super Regional.
