ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats will face the winners of Friday’s duel between Western Oklahoma Community College and Madison Area Community College (Wisc.), on Saturday at 7 p.m. The #6 Bobcats will be playing in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II World Series Championship game in Enid, OK, despite Thursday night’s loss to Western Oklahoma CC. The Ellisville team was the only unbeaten team going into Thursday’s game. Saturday’s Championship game is a winner takes the title game, now that the Bobcats have lost one game in the double-elimination Series.
The community is invited to welcome these ‘giant killers’, which is the local media’s nickname for the Bobcat team, to a Welcome Home celebration at the JCJC Community Bank Ball Park on campus. The team’s expected to arrive late Sunday night, about 9:30 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend this “hero’s” welcome home to recognize the amazing accomplishments of this team.
After hosting the State tournament and capturing that title May 15, the team then proceeded to knock off the previous National Champions, LSU-Eunice twice, in the Region 23 championship game on May 21, before heading off to Enid, OK for the JUCO World Series May 25. This is a school record for wins and titles for Coach Christian Ostranders’ Bobcat Baseball Team and any JCJC Baseball team.
