ENID, Okla. – The 2011 NJCAA Division II Junior College World Series is a big deal.
But the sixth-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats treated their opening game in the tournament like another day in the office.
The Bobcats got a complete-game pitching performance from Andrew Pierce, came up with several clutch hits and played errorless baseball in beating the fourth-ranked Des Moines Area Community College (Iowa) Bears 9-1 in seven innings here on a warm Saturday afternoon at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
The victory moves the Bobcats, 43-15, into a winner’s bracket game at noon on Monday vs. the winner of Saturday’s late game between top-ranked Heartland Community College (Ill.) and second-rated University of Connecticut-Avery Point.
DMACC, 46-17, will face the Heartland/UConn-Avery Point loser at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Monday’s game will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 11:55 a.m.
