Bobcats move up to No. 12 in latest baseball poll

 ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats have moved up a notch in the latest NJCAA Division II baseball poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.

The MACJC state champion Bobcats (38-14) are tied for 12th in the poll with Madison Area Technical College (Wisc.).

The new No. 1 team this week is Heartland Community College (Ill.). The Hawks are 47-9 and were ranked second in the previous poll. LSU-Eunice has moved up to No. 2 in the rankings from No. 3. The Bengals are 43-13. Black Hawk College-Moline (Ill.) is third with a 44-7 record.

JCJC will meet Holmes Community College at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Region 23 Tournament, while LSU-Eunice faces Northwest Mississippi Community College at 2 p.m. in the tourney opener.

The winner of the Region 23 Tournament advances to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Okla., May 28-June 4.

Three teams have already qualified for the World Series.

Gateway Community College (Ariz.), ranked No. 6, won Region 1, while 14th-rated Southeast Community College (N.C.) won Region 10. Kellogg Community College (Mich.) won Region 12. Gateway is 40-21, Southeast is 35-19 and Kellogg is 29-25.
