Deniakos, Williams claim doubles match in national tournament

PLANO, Texas – Jones County Junior College’s Armand Deniakos and Nick Williams went three sets to win a No. 2 consolation doubles match here in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament on Tuesday.
Deniakos and Williams outlasted Kyle Justice and Mason Tedesco of Marion Military Institute (Ala.), 6-3, 1-6, 10-3. They will play at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The No. 3 doubles team of Josh Agee and Casper Wansley will also play at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Bobcats are in 14th place with 12.5 points after two days of the tournament. Laredo Community College and Tyler Junior College, both from Texas, and Vincennes University (Ind.) share the tournament lead with 27 points.
In No. 1 doubles, JCJC’s Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman lost 6-4, 6-2 to Admire Mushonga and Mbonis Ndimande of Seminole State (Okla.), while Williams and Deniakos fell to Alan Barrios and Matt Bernard of Pima College (Ariz.), 6-3, 6-0 in an earlier match.
In No. 1 singles, Thorold lost 7-5, 6-2 to Barrios in a consolation match.
Williams fell to Matt Campbell of Tyler Junior College (Texas), 6-1, 6-3. Sherman lost in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 to Antoine Raffaelli of Laredo Community College (Texas), while Deniakos fell to Jay Gillespie of Collin College, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 4 singles. Agee lost to top-seeded Jose Zaatini of Vincennes College (Ind.), 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and Wansley fell to Jami Clark of Vincennes, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.
