PLANO, Texas – The NJCAA Division I Tennis Tournament began Monday here at Collin College, but a Jones County Junior College player scored a huge victory on Sunday evening.

Cade Sherman, a sophomore from West Jones High School, was named the winner of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship National Award during the pre-tournament banquet. Sherman was the Region 3 winner and was a finalist for the award along with three other players.

The Arthur Ashe Award recognizes outstanding individuals at the regional and national level. The award goes to players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Sherman and other national award winners will be honored during a special ceremony hosted by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) during Arthur Ashe Kids Day inside Ashe Stadium at the U.S. Open in August in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
