13th-ranked Bobcats meet Holmes in Region 23 opener

ELLISVILLE – The Region 23 Tournament bracket has been released.
The tournament will take place Thursday-Saturday at Charlie Donald Field on the campus of Holmes Community College in Goodman.
The MACJC state champion and 13th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats will enter as the top-seed and will face fourth-seed and tourney host Holmes at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Game 2. The event opens with second-seeded and state runnerup Northwest Mississippi Community College playing third-seeded and defending NJCAA Division II national champion LSU-Eunice at 2 p.m. Thursday in Game 1.
The Game 1 loser meets the Game 2 loser at 11 a.m. on Friday in Game 3, followed by the Game 1 winner vs. the Game 2 winner at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in Game 4. The Game 3 winner faces the Game 4 loser at 6 p.m. on Friday.
The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday with an ‘if necessary’ game to follow 30 minutes later.
All games involving JCJC will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 5 minutes prior to each contest.
The winner of the tournament advances to the NJCAA Division II World Series May 28-June 4 in Enid, Okla.
JCJC enters the tournament with a 38-14 record, while Northwest is 31-19, Holmes is 30-17 and LSU-Eunice, ranked third in the nation, is 43-13.
