ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats moved up to No. 14 from No. 13 in the latest NJCAA Division II baseball poll, which was released Wednesday morning.

Head coach Christian Ostrander’s Bobcats defeated East Mississippi Community College 2-1 in a best-of-three playoff series last week here at Community Bank Park.

That gives JCJC a 35-14 overall record and allows the Bobcats to host this week’s MACJC State Baseball Tournament.

JCJC will host Northwest at 6 p.m. on Thursday, while Miss. Gulf Coast battles Holmes at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the tournament opener. All games in the tournament will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv and www.jcjc.edu/macjc/. The top three teams advance to the Region 23 Tournament May 19-21 at the site of the highest seeded remaining North Division team.

The Bobcats are the only MACJC team in this week’s poll.

Frederick Community College (Md.) remains No. 1 this week with a 41-5 record, followed by Heartland Community College (Ill.) at No. 2 with a 42-8 mark. LSU-Eunice of Region 23 is No. 3 with a 41-13 record.
