ELLISVILLE – Four Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcat softball players have been honored for their play during the 2011 season.

South Jones sophomore leftfielder Mallory Cowart and Gretna, La., sophomore pitcher Ginger Lonergan have been named All-Region 23. Quitman sophomore second baseman Shannon Mosley and Luling, La., freshman pitcher Lauren Candies have been named All-MACJC.

Cowart, who was a member of the 2010 Lady Bobcat state championship soccer team, posted a .408 batting average. She led the team in hits with 62, doubles with 14, triples with four and RBIs with 32. She also had two home runs, scored 31 runs and was a standout defender.

Lonergan, who prepped at Dominican High School, compiled an 18-6 record this season. She tossed a perfect game on Feb. 11 in an 8-0 victory at Jeff Davis Community College. She then threw a no-hitter on Feb. 26 in a 2-0 victory at Holmes.

In 164 2/3 innings, Lonergan allowed 138 hits and struck out 164. She had a 1.36 earned run average (ERA).

Mosley, a Vossburg native, led the team in batting average at .415 and runs scored with 34. She also had nine doubles, three triples and drove in 22 runs. She had two home runs and started most of the season at second base before being sidelined for several games with a hand injury.

Candies, who played at Hahnville High School, posted a 17-9 record. She tossed 164 1/3 innings, allowed 185 hits and struck out 106. She had a 2.08 ERA.
