ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats came up short in their quest for a state championship here Friday afternoon.
But their season is still not over.
The homestanding and seventh-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Lady Bulldogs blanked the Lady Bobcats 5-0 in the MACJC State Tournament semifinals at Ross-Smith Field.
The loss drops JCJC to 33-13 on the season, but they have qualified for the Region 23 Tournament May 5-7 at Traceway Park in Clinton.
The Lady Bobcats will play Pearl River at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the tournament opener. East Central defeated Pearl River, 4-3 in 10 innings, in Friday’s other semifinal game.

MGCCC closed the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of sixth. White singled, took second on a groundout and scored on a dropped popup on the infield. Fairley, who had reached on the error, scored on Albritton’s fourth single of the game.
