ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College softball team has achieved another milestone.

The Lady Bobcats are ranked No. 17 in the nation in the latest NJCAA Division II softball poll, which was released Wednesday morning.

Head coach Chris Robinson’s team is currently 31-11 overall and is in second place in the MACJC South Division with a 15-7 record. Every time the Lady Bobcats win a game, they set a school record for victories in a season and they have qualified for the MACJC State Tournament in fastpitch for the first time in school history. The tournament will be played next week at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

LSU-Eunice of Region 23 continues to lead the poll with a 45-8 mark. Kankakee Community College (Ill.) is second at 34-8. MGCCC, 32-10, is rated No. 10 and East Central Community College, 27-11, received votes.

It will be “Sophomore Day” and the team will recognize its four sophomores – Mallory Cowart, Heidi Garcich, Kayla McDaniel and Shannon Mosley.
