ELLISVILLE-The Jones County Junior College Associate Degree Nursing division was recently notified that it has been granted accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). This full accreditation will be valid until fall 2018.
“I’m very proud of my co-workers in the ADN division,” said Division Chair, Dr. Donna Scoggin. “They have worked very hard to meet all standards as well as develop the self-study report. I appreciate the support and assistance the JCJC administration has extended to our division with this process. We are pleased to have received this confirmation of continued accreditation.”
Scoggin said this accreditation is significant because nursing programs must be accredited in order for the graduates to be eligible for licensure as registered nurses. Equally as important, we want to assure that our students are being provided a quality educational program that not only meets, but exceeds state and national standards. More than 100 students are accepted annually into the JCJC Associate Degree Nursing program.
The nursing division faculty utilizes a written master plan for evaluation on an ongoing basis each academic year to review the curriculum for rigor, relevancy and currency. The state and national accreditation standards are addressed, with findings utilized for continual program improvement.
The accreditation process began with the fifteen faculty members of the ADN division compiling a comprehensive Self Study Report which was submitted to the state and national accrediting bodies in early fall 2010. State and national representatives visited JCJC to review the self study, observe class instruction and facilities in October.
