Bobcats open play in MACJC State Tennis Tournament

 CLINTON – The 2011 MACJC State Tennis Tournament is under way here on the campus of Mississippi College.

The Jones County Junior College Bobcat teams will have a full schedule of singles and doubles’ matches today. The tournament continues on Friday and is scheduled to conclude Saturday.

The top three teams qualify for the Region 23 Tournament Tuesday-Wednesday in Meridian.

LADY BOBCATS

The Lady Bobcats are seeking their third straight state championship.

Today, in No. 1 doubles, Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph are the No. 4 seed and will meet Jennifer Holland Taylor Morgan of Holmes at 2:30 p.m. Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman are the No. 1 seed in No. 2 doubles and will face Sommer Burnett and Mandy Collins of Itawamba at 2:30 p.m. Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long are the No. 2 seed in No. 3 doubles and face Kristen Hall and Hannah Calcote of Co-Lin at 4 p.m.

Jefcoat is the No. 4 seed in No. 1 singles and faces Alex Lea of Co-Lin at 8:30 a.m. Cochran is seeded second in No. 2 singles and meets Ciarra Applewhite of Holmes at 10 a.m. Freeman is the top seed in No. 3 singles and plays Lauren Lurk of East Central at 10 a.m. Rudolph is seeded fourth in No. 4 singles and plays Kadey Eaves of Holmes at 11:30 a.m. Carpenter is seeded third in No. 5 singles and plays Danielle Pierce at 1 p.m. and Long meets Brennan Harris of Itawamba at 1 p.m. in No. 6 singles.

BOBCATS

Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman are seeded No. 3 in No. 1 doubles and face Preston Wade and Ben Nhwk of Northeast at 2:30 p.m. Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos are the top seeds in No. 2 doubles and play Brennan Williams and Jared Lyons of Holmes at 2:30 p.m. Casper Wansley and Josh Agee face Walt Stinson and Josh Blackburn of East Central at 4 p.m. in No. 3 doubles.

Thorold is the No. 4 seed in No. 1 singles and faces Zac White of East Central at 8:30 a.m. Williams is seeded second in No. 2 singles and meets Alex Drake of Mississippi Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. Sherman is the top seed in No. 3 singles and plays Tyler Eggers of Mississippi Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. Deniakos is seeded second in No. 4 singles and plays Matt Hart of Co-Lin at 11 a.m. Agee is seeded fourth in No. 5 singles and faces Joey Shelton of Co-Lin at 1:30 p.m. Wansley is the top seed in No. 6 singles and drew a bye. He will play the winner of the match between MGCCC’s Nathan Storm and Holmes’ Jared Lyons at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
