JCJC men's tennis team defeats Miss. Gulf Coast

 BILOXI – The Jones County Junior College men’s tennis team defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 7-2 here Monday afternoon.

Head coach Mark Easley’s Bobcats end the regular season with a 10-3 record.

The Lady Bobcats fell 6-3 to the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bobcats conclude regular season play with a 9-5 mark.

Both Bobcat teams will now compete in the MACJC State Tournament Thursday through Saturday on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.

Bobcats 7, Bulldogs 2

JCJC took two of the doubles’ points and five of the singles’ points.

In No. 1 doubles, JCJC’s Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman beat Kriss Baglais and Alex Drake, 8-3, while Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos defeated Tyler Eggers and Matt Cannaday, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles. MGCCC’s Nathan Storm and Carter Griffin edged Josh Agee and Casper Wansley, 9-7, in No. 3 doubles.

Thorold took No. 1 singles over Baglais, 6-1, 6-3, while Williams claimed No. 2 singles over Drake, 6-1, 6-2. Sherman defeated Eggers, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 3 singles, while Deniakos downed Cannaday, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 4 singles. Wansley took No. 6 singles over Storm, 6-0, 6-1. Agee fell to Griffin, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 5 singles.

Lady Bulldogs 6, Lady Bobcats 3

JCJC’s Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman defeated Katherine Blair and Katy King, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Cochran beat Arielle Fisher, 7-5, 6-3, in No. 2 singles and Freeman blanked Blair, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles.

MGCCC’s Ruta Grunvalde and Fisher edged Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph, 9-8 (4) in No. 1 doubles, while McKinsey Boss and Kayleigh Grantham nipped Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long, 9-8 (7) in No. 3 doubles.

Grunvalde beat Jefcoat, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles, King downed Rudolph, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 4 singles, Boss beat Carpenter, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 5 singles and Grantham defeated Long, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 6 singles.
