Lady Bobcats come close vs. top-ranked LSU-Eunice

EUNICE, La. – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats were within one out of upsetting top-ranked LSU-Eunice here Saturday afternoon.
But the Lady Bobcats could not secure the final out.
Trailing 4-1 with nobody on base and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU-Eunice scored four runs and beat the Lady Bobcats, 5-4, in game one of a doubleheader. The Lady Bengals then completed the sweep with an 8-0, six-inning victory in game two.
JCJC is now 26-10 and will resume South Division play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at home on Tuesday vs. Southwest Mississippi Community College. The games will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman calling play-by-play. Airtime is 2:55 p.m.
LSU-Eunice, 37-8, goes to Alvin Community College (Texas) on Monday.
In the opener, the Lady Bengals scored a run in the first inning.
JCJC then came back to take a 3-1 lead in the second. Jade McLeod led off with a single, Heidi Garcich reached on a bunt single and K.T. Perkins was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Mallory Cowart’s groundout scored a run and Haley Brooke Smith followed with a two-run single.
The Lady Bobcats went up 4-1 in the third. Shannon Mosley led off with a single and went to second on McLeod’s groundout. She went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when the Lady Bengals made their two-out rally.
Ginger Lonergan, 13-3, took the loss for JCJC. She gave up 10 hits, five earned runs, walked three and struck out two.
In game two, the Lady Bobcats were limited to three singles from Cowart, Smith and Brittany Daniel.
Lauren Candies, 13-7, absorbed the loss. She gave up 13 hits, eight earned runs, struck out two and walked none.
