JCJC men's tennis team beats Hinds

RAYMOND – The Jones County Junior College men’s tennis team improved to 9-2 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Hinds Community College here Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Bobcats dropped a 5-4 decision to the Lady Eagles. They are now 8-3 on the year.
The Bobcats will be in Meridian on Saturday. The Lady Bobcats meet Central Alabama Community College at 9:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., both Bobcat teams face Meridian Community College.
JCJC will conclude regular season play at noon on Monday in Biloxi vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The Bobcat teams will compete in the MACJC State Tournament April 14-16 on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton. Hinds is serving as tournament host.
Bobcats 6, Eagles 3
JCJC won two of the doubles’ points and four of the singles’ points.
Bobcats’ Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos claimed No. 2 doubles over Donnell Myles and Morgan Brashier, 8-4, while JCJC’s Mitchell Smith and Casper Wansley won No. 3 doubles over Eric Stubblefield and Jeremy Robinson, 8-1. Hinds’ Nikita Lisov and Mikhail Pecherkin took No. 1 doubles over Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman, 8-2.
Sherman defeated Myles, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, while Deniakos beat Robinson, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 4 singles. Smith downed Brashier, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 5 singles and Wansley blanked Stubblefield, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles. Pecherkin beat Thorold, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 1 singles and Lisov defeated Williams, 7-5, 6-1, in No. 2 singles.
Lady Eagles 5, Lady Bobcats 4
JCJC won two of the doubles’ points, but Hinds came back to take four of the singles’ point and win the match.
JCJC’s Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman beat Jennifer Hill and Grace Ga-as, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Lady Bobcats’ Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long outlasted Elisabeth Bethea and Rachel Binkley, 9-8 (6), in No. 3 doubles. Hinds’ Natasha Grytsiak and Oksana Fumeko beat Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles.
Freeman beat Hill, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 3 singles and Rudolph downed Ga-as, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 4 singles.
Grytsiak defeated Jefcoat, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 1 singles, while Fumeko beat Cochran, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 2 singles. Beathea downed Carpenter, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles and Binkley defeated Long, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 6 singles.
