No. 11 Lady Bulldogs take two close ones from JCJC

PERKINSTON – 11th-rated Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit and beat the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats 4-2 in game two of a doubleheader here on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Ross Smith Field.
The Lady Bulldogs won game one, 3-1.
The MGCCC sweep puts the Lady Bulldogs in control of the South
Division. Gulf Coast is 24-8 overall, 12-1 in division play. JCJC is
25-7 overall, 9-5 in the league.
JCJC hosts East Central Community College in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on
Tuesday at Community Bank Park. The first game will air on www.jcjc.tv with a 2:55 p.m. broadcast time. Lance Pittman will be calling the play-by-play.
Lady Bulldogs 3, Lady Bobcats 1
In game one Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Mandy Fuller led off with a double and scored on Taylor Bryan’s single. After Katy White reached on an error, Courtney Moore’s sacrifice fly scored Bryan.
The Lady Bobcats scored their run in the third inning.
Kayla McDaniel drew a walk and Mallory Cowart singled. With McDaniel on third base, Gulf Coast catcher Fuller tried to pick her off the bag, but the ball was dropped by third baseman Kayla Herbert, allowing McDaniel to score.
The Lady Bulldogs got their final run in the fourth.
White reached on an error, Herbert drew a walk and Mariah Hartman was hit by a pitch. Kris Albritton then drilled a sacrifice fly to right to score White.
Ginger Lonergan went the distance and took the loss. Lonergan, 12-2,
allowed just one earned run, five hits, walked one and struck out two.
Cowart had two singles for JCJC, while Shannon Mosley and Heidi Garcich added singles.
Bayleigh Babin posted the win. She allowed one earned run, four hits, walked two and struck out four.
Fuller doubled for MGCCC, while Albritton, Courtney Fairley, Shajuan Buckley and Bryan each singled.
Lady Bulldogs 4, Lady Bobcats 2
In game two, Gulf Coast took a 1-0 lead in the second when Fuller had an RBI single.
JCJC scored twice in the fifth to take the lead. K.T. Perkins singled and McDaniel reached on an error. Haley Brooke Smith's single scored Perkins and McDaniel would score on a throwing error.
But Gulf Coast would string together five consecutive, one-out singles
and score thee runs to take the lead in the sixth.
Bryan blooped an infield single, White blooped a single to shallow center and Moore singled to load the bases. Fairly then hit another single to shallow center to score Bryan. Albritton then hit a two-run single to left to give the Lady Bulldogs the lead.
JCJC went down in order in the seventh.
Lauren Candies, 13-5, went the distance and took the loss. She allowed 11 hits, walked one and struck out 2.
Smith singled twice for the Lady Bobcats, while Alex Faciane, Garcich,
Perkins and Jessmar Walters had one single each.
Fuller, Albritton, Hartman and White had two singles each for the Lady Bulldogs. Bryan, Fairley and Moore had one single each.
Linsey Dickerson posted the victory. She gave up six hits, struck out
one, walked one and hit one.
