Bobcat baseball, softball teams receive poll votes

 ELLISVILLE – Both the Jones County Junior College baseball and softball teams received votes in this week’s NJCAA Division II polls.

Head coach Christian Ostrander’s baseball Bobcats received votes in the first regular season poll on March 16 and in the second regular season poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.

JCJC owns a 17-9 overall record and is 4-2 in South Division play. The Bobcats are scheduled to play at 15th-ranked East Central Community College on Thursday. The Warriors, 15-9, are the only Mississippi school ranked in the top 15.

Another Region 23 team, LSU-Eunice, tops this week’s poll. The Bengals are 24-5 on the year.

Head coach Chris Robinson’s Lady Bobcats are 23-5 overall and 7-3 in division play. This is the first regular season poll of the year in Division II women’s softball.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 23-8, is ranked No. 11 and Pearl River Community College, 15-9, is rated No. 19. The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to play at Pearl River at 4 p.m. on Thursday and at Mississippi Gulf Coast at noon on Saturday.

LSU-Eunice also leads the women’s poll. The Lady Bengals are 33-6 on the year.
