Bobcat tennis teams whip Miss. Gulf Coast

ELLISVILLE – It was a very good day for the Jones County Junior College tennis teams here at the Bobcat Tennis Courts Tuesday.

The men’s team blanked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 9-0, while the Lady Bobcats triumphed, 6-3.

Both JCJC teams are now 7-2 on the season.

The Bobcats will host Hinds at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Gulf Coast travels to Holmes on Thursday.

Bobcats 9, Bulldogs 0

Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman beat Kriss Baglais and Alex Drake, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles; Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos defeated Matt Cannaday and Tyler Eggers, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles; Mitchell Smith and Casper Wansley downed Nathan Storm and Carter Griffin, 8-5, in No. 3 doubles.

Thorold defeated Baglais, 6-4, 4-2 (retired) in No. 1 singles; Williams beat Drake, 7-6 (5), 6-1, in No. 2 singles; Sherman whipped Eggers, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 3 singles; Deniakos beat Cannaday, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 4 singles; Smith beat Griffin, 6-4, 6-1, in No. 5 singles; and Wansley downed Storm, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.

Lady Bobcats 6, Lady Bulldogs 3

JCJC won two of the doubles’ matches and four of the singles’ matches.

In No. 2 doubles, JCJC’s Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman defeated Katy King and Katherine Blair, 8-3, and Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long edged McKinsay Boss and Kaleigh Grantham, 8-6. MGCCC’s Ruta Grinvalde and Arielle Fisher defeated Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.

In No. 2 singles, Cochran beat Fisher, 6-1, 6-0; Freeman defeated Blair, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 3 singles; Rudolph rallied to beat King, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8, in No. 4 singles; and Carpenter outlasted Boss, 6-2, 5-7, 10-4, in No. 5 singles.

Grinvalde beat Jefcoat, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 1 singles and Grantham downed Long, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 6 singles.
