JCJC's Givens named MACJC All-Star Game MVP

 DECATUR – Jones County Junior College forward Brandon Givens was named the Most Valuable Player in the South’s 98-89 victory over the North Monday night in the MACJC Men’s All-Star Basketball Game.

Givens, a 6-foot-6 forward from Ruffin, S.C., scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the South. Bobcat teammate Derrious Gilmore, a 5-foot-9 guard from Baltimore, Md., had 11 points. JCJC men’s coach Don “Bubba” Skelton served as head coach of the South team.

Curtis Bailey of Holmes led the North with 14 points.

The South led 47-32 at halftime.

In the women’s game, JCJC’s Tanecka Carey scored 14 points and had five rebounds to help the South to a 92-64 decision over the North. Carey, who has already signed with Southern Miss, is a 5-foot-9 guard from Jackson Murrah. Lady Bobcat teammate Kiana Harris, a 5-foot-9 guard from Jackson Provine, had 10 points. JCJC women’s head coach Sandra Sumrall served as head coach of the South team.

Co-Lin’s Brandi Simmons had 14 points and six rebounds and was named the game’s MVP.

Lanita Futrell of Northwest led the North with 12 points.

The South led 48-22 at halftime.

Monday’s games were played at the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the campus of East Central Community College.
