Itawamba netters defeat Bobcats

 FULTON – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams fell short against Itawamba Community College here Friday afternoon.

The Lady Indians edged Jones, 5-4, while the ICC men won by a 6-3 score.

Both Bobcat teams are now 6-2 on the season and will host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Itawamba hosts East Central on Tuesday.

Lady Indians 5, Lady Bobcats 4

The Lady Bobcats split the singles’ matches, but lost 2-1 in doubles.

In No. 2 doubles, JCJC’s Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman beat Catherine Cook and Mandy Collins, 8-2. Other JCJC winners were: Cochran over Lyvia Gomes, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles; Freeman over Chelsea Suddith, 7-6 (5), 6-2, in No. 3 singles and Amber Long over Brennan Harris, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8, in No. 6 singles.

ICC’s Brittany Harris and Gomes took No. 1 doubles over Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph, 8-4, and ICC’s Tiara Dismuke and Suddith defeated Long and Lauren Carpenter, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles. Harris beat Jefcoat, 6-3, 7-5, in No. 1 singles; Summer Burnett defeated Rudolph, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 4 singles; and Collins downed Carpenter, 6-1, 7-6 (8), in No. 5 singles.

Indians 6, Bobcats 3

JCJC’s Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos won No. 2 doubles over Stephen Montgomery and Wesley Raines, 9-7. Williams defeated Leo Prudencio 6-3, 6-4, in No. 2 singles and JCJC’s Cade Sherman downed Raines, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 3 singles.

ICC’s Ethan Wilkinson and Prudencio defeated Sam Thorold and Sherman, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles, while ICC’s Alex Thomas and Luke Wilson beat Mitchell Smith and Casper Wansley, 8-2, in No. 3 doubles.

Wilkinson downed Thorold, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 1 singles, while Thomas defeated Deniakos, 7-5, 6-3, in No. 4 singles. Wilson beat Smith, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 5 singles and ICC’s Jeremy Falls edged Wansley, 7-5, 6-4, in No. 6 singles.
