ELLISVILLE – If a baseball team holds their opponent without a run in two games, then they are going to come up with a pair of victories.
That’s exactly what happened with the Jones County Junior College Bobcats as they blanked the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears twice here Saturday afternoon on a windy day at Community Bank Park.
Vito Perna, Bryce Ladner and Ryan Waters combined on the shutout in the opener, as JCJC won 12-0 in five innings. In game two, freshman Logan Riddell went the distance and tossed a three-hitter, lifting the Bobcats to a 3-0 victory.
Perna would end up getting six hits offensively on the day – three in each game.
The Bobcats are now 17-9 overall and 4-2 in South Division play. SMCC falls to 13-9 overall, 3-5 in the league.
JCJC travels to East Central Community College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday. The games will be audiocast on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman doing play-by-play. Airtime is 2:55 p.m.
The Bears will go to Mississippi Delta Community College on Wednesday.
