Lady Bobcats post huge division sweep over Co-Lin

ELLISVILLE – Ginger Lonergan and Lauren Candies came up big in the circle for the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats here Saturday afternoon at breezy Community Bank Park.
Lonergan threw a two-hit shutout in the opener to lead JCJC to a 3-0 victory over 10th-ranked Co-Lin Community College. In game two, Candies allowed just five hits as the Lady Bobcats completed the sweep with a 4-2 decision. JCJC had dropped 13 straight games to Co-Lin in softball.
JCJC is now 23-5 overall, 7-3 in South Division play. Co-Lin falls to 15-11 overall, 3-5 in the league.
The Lady Bobcats will return to division action with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Pearl River Community College on Wednesday.
Co-Lin travels to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 2 p.m. on Monday.

Lonergan walked none and struck out nine as she improved her record to 11-1.
JCJC got the only run it would need in the bottom of the first inning.
With two outs, Alex Faciane drew a walk. Shannon Mosley then singled to left-center and Co-Lin booted the ball. That allowed Faciane to score all the way from first.
The Lady Bobcats added two more runs in the second.
Heidi Garcich led off with an infield single and was sacrificed to second by K.T. Perkins. After a strikeout, Mallory Cowart delivered a run-scoring single and advanced to third on an error. Haley Brooke Smith’s popup to second was then dropped, which allowed Cowart to score.
Co-Lin’s best threat was in the second when Ashley McCaffrey reached on an error and Sarah Anthony singled with one out. But Lonergan got a strikeout and flyout to end the inning.
Mosley singled twice for JCJC, while Jessmar Walters doubled. Garcich and Cowart added singles.
Anthony and Lakin Lockhart singled for Co-Lin’s only two hits.
Bethany Pinkston took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She allowed three runs (one earned), five hits, walked three and struck out five.

Candies gave up two unearned runs, six hits, walked one and struck out five as she improved to 12-4.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the second when Mosley tripled and scored on a bunt single by Walters.
The Lady Bobcats made it 2-0 in the third when Kayla McDaniel led off with a single and Smith and Faciane followed with singles.
Co-Lin got on the board in the fifth when Stevie Wright walked and Kacey Smith singled. An error allowed Wright to score.
The Lady Wolves tied it in the sixth. Tammy Alford singled with one out and Anthony followed with another single. Another error allowed Alford to score.
But JCJC would score twice in the sixth to take the lead.
Mosley led off with her second triple of the game and scored on an error. After Stacia Whitaker singled, Garcich drew a walk. Pinch-runner Jasmine Jefferson scored on the front end of a double steal.
Mosley tripled twice for JCJC. Cowart, Smith, Faciane, Whitaker, Walters and McDaniel added singles.
Alford doubled and singled for Co-Lin, while Smith singled twice. Anthony added a single.
Anthony took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She went the distance, allowed four runs (two earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out one.
