Bobcat tennis teams crush Holmes

ELLISVILLE – It was another successful afternoon on the tennis courts for the Jones County Junior College teams.

The JCJC squads each whipped Holmes Community College by 9-0 scores here Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Both teams improved their record to 6-1 with the victories.

The Bobcat netters will be on the road Friday to Fulton to take on Itawamba Community College in a 1:30 p.m. match. The next home match will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Holmes travels to Co-Lin at 2 p.m. on Monday.

Lady Bobcats 9, Lady Bulldogs 0

Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman beat Ciara Applewhite and Kadey Eaves, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles, while Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long won No. 3 doubles over Mary Brooke Lott and Morgan Pettit, 8-2. Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph took No. 1 doubles by forfeit.

Cochran blanked Applewhite, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, Rudolph beat Eaves, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 4 singles, Carpenter downed Lott, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 5 singles and Long whipped Pettit, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles. Jefcoat and Freeman won No.’s 1 and 3 singles, respectively, by forfeit.

Bobcats 9, Bulldogs 0

In No. 1 doubles, Josh Agee and Thomas Morgan teamed to defeat Hunter Herrington and Mitchell Parkman, 8-0. Mitchell Smith and Casper Wansley took No. 3 doubles over Brennan Williams and Jared Lyons, 8-0. Nathan Burkett and Colby Prince won No. 2 doubles by forfeit.

Agee shutout Herrington, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, Morgan beat Parkman, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 3 singles, Burkett whipped Williams, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 4 singles, Smith blanked Lyons, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 5 singles and Prince defeated Johnson, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles. Sam Thorold won No. 1 singles by forfeit.
