JCJC tennis teams whip East Central

DECATUR – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams whipped East Central Community College by identical 9-0 scores here Tuesday afternoon.

Both the JCJC men and women’s teams are now 5-1 on the season. The Bobcats host Holmes Community College at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and travel to Itawamba Community College on Friday.

Lady Bobcats 9, Lady Warriors 0

In No. 1 doubles, Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph beat Cassie Munn and Laureen Lurk, 8-4. Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman blanked Madison Nowell and Carrie Rushing, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long defeated Danielle Pierce and Anna Alexander, 8-2.

Jefcoat downed Munn, 7-5, 6-2, in No. 1 singles, Cochran shutout Nowell, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, Freeman whipped Lurk, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 3 singles, Rudolph beat Rushing, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 4 singles, Carpenter downed Pierce, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 5 singles and Long beat Alexander, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.

Bobcats 9, Warriors 0

Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman defeated Zac White and Jason Loris, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles. Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos blanked Matt Griffin and Richie Ferguson, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles. Casper Wansley and Thomas Morgan edged Danny Smith and Josh Blackburn, 9-8 (1), in No. 3 doubles.

In No. 1 singles, Thorold whipped White, 6-1, 6-1, while Williams shutout Loris, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Sherman defeated Griffin, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 3 singles and Deniakos downed Smith, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 4 singles. Josh Agee downed Ferguson, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 5 singles and Wansley beat Walt Stinson, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 6 singles.
