Bobcat netters take care of Co-Lin

ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College had an excellent day here Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.

The Lady Bobcats defeated Co-Lin Community College, 6-3, while the JCJC men’s team whipped the Wolves, 8-1.

Both JCJC teams are now 4-1 on the season.

The Bobcat netters will return to action at 1:30 p.m. on March 22 at East Central Community College.

Bobcats 8, Wolves 1

JCJC won all of the doubles’ points.

Sam Thorold and Cade Sherman edged Mario Huljev and Marko Knezevic, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles. Nick Williams and Armand Deniakos beat Matthew Hart and Jon McLeod, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Mitchell Smith and Casper Wansley defeated Joey Shelton and Blaine Roberts, 8-3, in No. 3 doubles.

Williams defeated Huljev, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 2 singles. Sherman blanked Hart, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles. Deniakos beat McLeod, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 4 singles, Smith whipped Shelton, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 5 singles and Wansley downed Roberts, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 6 singles.

Co-Lin’s Knezevic downed Thorold, 6-4, 6-3, in No. 1 singles.

Lady Bobcats 6, Lady Wolves 3

JCJC took two of the three doubles’ points.

Rachel Jefcoat and Alison Rudolph of Jones beat Alex Lea and Katie Case, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles and Lady Bobcats’ Arlette Cochran and Brandy Freeman defeated Macie Case and Ansley Schimmel, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles. Co-Lin’s Nicole Magee and Hannah Calcote beat Lauren Carpenter and Amber Long, 8-5, in No. 3 doubles.

Jefcoat then defeated Lea, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 1 singles, while Cochran downed Macie Case, 6-4, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Freeman beat Schimmel, 6-2, 7-6 (8), in No. 3 singles and Rudolph downed Katie Case, 6-4, 7-6 (4), in No. 4 singles.

Co-Lin’s Magee beat Carpenter, 7-6 (3), 6-2, in No. 5 singles and Leah Manoley outlasted Long, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, in No. 6 singles.
