Bobcats rout Rangers, 14-0 in 5 innings, in game two

SENATOBIA – After dropping a heartbreaking, one-run decision in game one of a doubleheader, the Jones County Junior College Bobcats rebounded strongly in game two.
JCJC sent 19 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs in the second inning and went on to whip the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers, 14-0 in five innings here Monday afternoon. Earlier, the Rangers hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Bobcats, 9-8.
The Bobcats are now 11-6 on the season and return home to Community Bank Park to host Kishwaukee Community College (Ill.) at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The twinbill will air on www.jcjc.tv by audio only with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 1:55 p.m.
Northwest, 6-6, hosts Southwest Community College (Tenn.) at noon on Tuesday.
Bobcats 14, Rangers 0
The Bobcats batted for quite a while in the second before being retired.
Chase Headrick led off with a single and Ryan Roberts followed with a two-run home run. Graham Odom and Zach Allen followed with singles and Ladd Rhodes tripled both of them home. Chad Guice followed with a single to make it 5-0. Nick Ray was then by a pitch and Vito Perna drew a walk.
Darion Hamilton walked to force in a run. Ray then scored on a wild pitch. Headrick then followed with an RBI single to make it 8-0. After a strikeout for the inning’s first out, Odom reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Allen was hit by a pitch to force in a run and Rhodes walked to score another run.
Guice then delivered a two-run single and Ray followed with an RBI single. After a fly out for the second out of the inning, Hamilton had another RBI single. Headrick then batted for the third time in the inning and ended the frame with a pop up.
That was way more than enough for Bobcat pitcher Andrew Pierce. Pierce would go all five innings, allow three hits, no walks and record six strikeouts as he improved to 2-1.
Guice had three singles to pace the Bobcats, while Headrick singled twice. Roberts homered, Rhodes tripled and Ray, Blake Bowman, Perna, Hamilton, Odom, Tate Ratcliff and Allen added singles.
Chad Wardlaw, Bradley Noland and Chris Casto each singled for the Rangers.
Colt Burns, 2-1, started and took the loss. He went 1-plus inning, gave up seven earned runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out one. Ethan Sanderlin, Spencer Pierce, Garrett Radicioni, Marshal Hamrick and Heath Kitchens also pitched for Northwest.
Rangers 9, Bobcats 8
The Bobcats fell behind 6-2 in the fourth, but came back and took an 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh when Hamilton hit a two-run home run to left.
But Dex Herrington had a one-out single and Drew Griffin followed with a two-run home run to win it for Northwest in the bottom of the seventh.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the second. Perna was hit by a pitch and replaced by courtesy runner Jarrett Jenkins. Hamilton singled and Roberts got an RBI single to left. Odom would follow with an RBI single to center.
The Rangers got three runs in the bottom of the second with Herrington hitting a two-run home run and Wardlaw driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Northwest added three more runs in the fourth. Wardlaw had a two-run homer and Luke McCullough had a sacrifice fly to drive in another run.
But the Bobcats would score four runs and tie it up in the fifth. Ray reached on a one-out error and Perna followed with a single. Hamilton walked to load the bases and Headrick singled to score Ray.
Roberts then had a two-run single to left-center, scoring Perna and Hamilton. Odom’s fielder’s choice would score Headrick with the tying run.
Northwest would then take a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Griffin was hit by a pitch and Jimmy Braswell singled. Austin Overall’s single scored Griffin.
JCJC would take the lead in the top of the seventh when Ray led off with a single and Hamilton followed with his home run.
But Northwest would win the game in their final at-bat.
Hamilton homered and singled for JCJC, while Ray and Roberts each had a pair of singles. Roberts had three RBIs. Rhodes, Guice, Perna, Headrick, Odom and Allen added singles.
Perna started and went 3-plus innings for the Bobcats. He gave up five earned runs, four hits, three walks and struck out two. Bryce Ladner went 1 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, three hits and struck out one. Blake McIlwain then went 1 1/3 innings, allowed no runs and one hit.
Ryan Waters, 3-1, went the final 1/3 of an inning and took the loss. He gave up two earned runs on two hits.
Griffin homered and singled twice for Northwest. Herrington homered and singled, while Wardlaw homered. Bradley Noland, Drew Klepzig, Braswell and Overall added singles.
Bill Higdon started for the Rangers and went 2-plus innings. He gave up two earned runs, five hits and two walks. Justin Rose went 2 1/3 innings, allowed four runs (two earned), four hits, walked one and struck out two. Jake Brigman went 1 2/3 innings, allowed one hit and struck out one.
Braswell went one inning and got the win. He allowed two earned runs, two hits, walked one and struck out one.
